79th anniversary of the 617 Squadron Dambusters raid over Germany
Jim Dooley was invited to join the remembrance service at Woodhall Spa Lincolnshire to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the 617 Squadron Dambusters raid over Germany during World War II.
The Brave aircrew, all of whom were volunteers, helped RAF Bomber Command strike a major blow against Nazi Germany’s war production in a daring night time raid to destroy three major dams. Codenamed Operation Chastise, the Avro Lancaster bombers dropped their famous ‘bouncing bombs’ across the water in order to breech the dams. After a very moving service there was a fly past by a Battle of Britain Hurricane fighter to commemorate the event.
